Hi! I'm back!

Oh my! I haven't been blogging for a long time....

I'm still living in Nevis and I have taken on two dogs that are now part of the family!

Say hello to Barney & Shadow!

Barney I found on the side of the road, skinny, full of fleas, and bloody paws, looking like he was about to give up on life. That was about a year ago. Shadow was hanging out by a beach bar/restaurant scavenging for food for several days. Didn't have the heart to leave her there. She's been with is now for almost 5 months.

Sweet and very spoiled dogs! Almost lost them a few days ago, as they ate poison on the beach, but both pulled through. A few nights at the vet and they are now back home and full of beans!

It's not always sunny in the Caribbean, so this late afternoon I'm chilling on the couch with a cup of Chai Latte and trying to find something to watch on TV, but there's nothing!

Tomorrow I'm back to work and hopefully my new rums for my 101 Rum Bar has arrived! Specially looking forward to welcome the Appleton Estate's Limited Edition, which is a 50 year old beauty from Jamaica! But I'll get back to the rums in another post!

Cheers my friends!

Today is the day

Today is just as much excited day as it is sad... We are more or less packed and ready for vacation. We are taking the boat from Four Seasons over to St. Kitts at noon, and then vacation is on!! Rumpunch on the boat.. Bring it on!!!$?@

But first we have to drop off Daisy dog... That's so sad.. But she will be playing with her friend Zoey, and usually when we go there, she don't care about us!

We have made sure we have visiting rights when we get back, so latest by the 11th, I will see her again! And we will be taking her whenever the owners needs us to!

Cheers my friends!

Vacation

Yay! Tickets are booked, and I'm ready for vacation!

On the 17th of this month I'm leaving this little rock and are heading for England! Believe it or not, but I have never been there. Maybe it's too close to Sweden, maybe the weather is too similar. But finally I will make it!

After exploring London and Canterbury, next stop is Charleston in the US! My old home! Very excited to see my old friends there and eat at some of my favorite restaurants! And of course shopping! I will have to get in about 1 year worth of shopping since the shopping on this island is.... limited!

From Charleston there will be a road trip to Miami, with stops along the way, including Orlando (two words: roller coasters), Sarasota (wine drinking and boating is on the schedule there) before hitting Miami, and flying back to St. Kitts & Nevis.

I can't wait and the count down is on!

Cheers my friends!

It's Yoga Time!

This amazing girl, Tara Leigh, in Nevis went to Miami for 6 weeks or so to become a yoga instructor. Back on the rock she is showing off her new skills and 2 days in a row now, I have got up in the morning to join her for a morning session (on my days off I would like to note!)!

I quickly realized how unfit I am, how much I need stretching (I can't touch my toes standing up!) and how I need to shop for more work out clothes! Yay! More to shop on my vacation!

My body is in chock at the moment and muscles I didn't know I had are hurting! She told me to make sure I drink a lot of water, so yesterday I had to double check online how much you are actually supposed to drink a day. Now, remember, I live in a hot and humid country... The result was 3 liter a day! 3 liter?! I bought a 1.5 liter bottle, and I have to say that I struggled to get through that one yesterday. If I would drink 3 liters a day, I would have to constantly sip the whole day. I'm not a water drinker! But with some efforts, I will at least try!

Next class is on Friday, and I'm looking forward to it!

Today  I'm on day 2 out of 3 days off, and this afternoon we will get on the boat for some sailing! Haven't been out in a while so it's going to be nice and relaxing!

Daisy is an experienced sailer these days!

I hope y'all are enjoying your day!

Cheers my friends!

Monkeys

As I was hanging my laundry yesterday on the side of the house I heard a lot of rattling in the bushes around the driveway. Looking closer it was a huge monkey pack hanging around on the neighbors pool deck, in the trees and walking on my wall on the back of the house.
Daisy was just as fascinated as I was and I think the monkeys were too! We were kind of just staring at each other! It's interesting to see how close they actually come.

Monkey sitting in the tree

These Green Vervet Monkeys lives in St. Kitts and Nevis and were brought to the island by plantation owners in the 17th century as pets for the wives and family. As they escaped and were set free, they took on the island life and can be seen all over.

Monkey on the wall

These cheeky monkeys will steal the mangos, well let me re-frase, will steal any fruit you have in your garden, and as much as from a tourist perspective they are cute and fun to photograph, they are a pain to anyone who wish to grow anything!

Monkey on the pool deck
I will still enjoy watching them (I don't grow anything at my place, and if I decided to I have a small little green house that will keep the monkey out!) and Daisy will continue chasing them!

Cheers my friends!

Blog CPR

It's time to do some serious CPR on this blog!

Since last blog post back in March, lots of things has happen.

Work wise, it's the same. It's supposed to be low season, but I can't feel it! However, I managed to get 5 days off in a row, and I'm on day 2 now! Well deserved!

I have moved from my little town cottage to ocean view house, and loving it. I now have a beautiful view of ocean and St. Kitts, the sister island of Nevis. We also have a little pool which is nice to dip in on hot days, like every other day! We have a spare bedroom, so if anyone is in need of a vacation, let me know! Walking distance to the beach!

View from the pool
We also ended up being "foster parents" to a cute little puppy, Daisy! Friends had picked her up and a month later they headed for England for 3 months. So I offered to take care of her in the meantime! We have both gotten a lot of exercise from all the walking. But I have also seen lots of turtle track on the beach, baby leather back turtles make their way down to the water, and worked on my tan!
1 pair of flipflops, 2 cushions, carpets, doggy bed etc. later, she's about to go back to her owners. Sad to give her up, but it's not like she's going back to a bad place. And for us during high season, we can't give her enough attention. She will be missed but I know we will be dogsit again!

Daisy sailing
We sailed to St. Martin for a quick get away. The night before sailing, we had a massive powerout, which made cooking and packing very hard, although we have a gas stove. I had a mental breakdown, but at 6am the next morning, I was on the boat and we were on our way! It was 10h of rock n' roll. I think all of us were sick and we all tried to just sleep and hold on.
In St. Martin we ate good, did some shopping and then it was time to sail back. 10h again, but this time the sea was much better. I actually could enjoy the trip. But next time I might just take the plane over there! LOL!
Strapped in!
The crew
I'm sailing

Going through the Simpson Bay bridge
Now it's time to pack my beach towel, sunscreen and food & drinks, and head for the afternoon beach BBQ down at Paradise beach! I love having 5 days off!

Cheers my friends!

St. Barth

We made it!! We are now in St. Barth at the house. 4 days of eating and window shopping!

The trip over was interesting. A private little plane, 4 seats in the back and one next to the pilot! Landing in St. Barth was also fun. One of the most dangerous airports in the world, and I can see why!

Now we are going to explore the island and get something to eat! And most important of all, a glass of rose!

Cheers my friends!

Vacation is on!

11:30pm... Can't sleep and I keep going over what to bring to St. Barth (in between my Angry Birds games)!

Tomorrow at 8am we will head over towards the airport here in Nevis. First time flying a "private jet" and we have no idea what we need to do at the airport! Lol! So it's better we are there on time.

So my question is, will I be allowed to sit in the cockpit?!

We have no plans for the next couple of days, but I know it will be great! I mean, I'm just excited to go in to a grocery store and see new things! Living on a small island as Nevis really makes you excited about the smallest things!

And I will drink rose all day long!

Cheers my friends!

Better Access

As I finally have an iPhone, and to that, added the Internet to my phone plan, I can now update my blog more often.

I can't remember last I actually had time to sit with my computer at home and just surf. These days it's 2 min on the phone to check Facebook, Aftonbladet (Swedish news. Got to stay a little up to date on what's going in on back home) and that's it. Kind of sad actually.

I do read quite a lot of work emails though! Some good ones, quite a few not so exciting (I guess that's part of the job ;))

Got to use my birthday present today! My fancy panini maker! Very yummy!

With that said, it's time to hit the bed. Got 6 days of work in front of me, but next Thursday I fly over to St. Barth!! Can't wait! 4 days of new scenery!

Cheers my friends!

The usual!

I have said it before and I do it again... Between work and bad internet signal at home, it goes far too long between my updates! You don't appreciate good internet until you have been down here for a while!

So what have I been up to since last?

I managed to escape from the island for 3 nights and I ended up in Miami and stayed at our (that would be Four Seasons) hotel there. The trip was dedicated to shopping, and did we do that or what?! Tara, my friend came along as the shopping consultant. Every woman needs one!

We had 2 full days in Miami, and the first day we spent at Sawgrass Mills Mall. We spent to be exact 11h at the mall, with only 30 min break for food!

The following day we spent in South Beach and strolled around and did some more shopping! And ate Sushi!

There were two things we had set our minds on when it came to food.. Sushi and... I'm almost ashamed to say it, but McDonalds! When we made it there it turned out that they had closed 2 minutes before we arrived and only the drive through were open. Only one problem.... we had walked there... But after a short deliberation we decided to line up after the other cars in the drive through, and get our McDonalds! I'm sure a few people had a good laugh!

And what has happen in Nevis?

One very exciting thing was the opening of our new grocery store (I know, it's only a store). It's very nice with a few new exciting products. Expensive though but it's nice to just walk around! Hahaha! Like I would ever do that if I lived in Sweden!

I also got a side promotion. I have now moved down to our lunch restaurant, the Cabana! And I enjoy it very much. Not only the hours are better, I also finally get to see our guests in the hotel and get a chance to talk to them. The 2 weeks I have been down there I have met many great guest with interesting stories!
Hard at work!

Today we are sailing over to St. Kitts to give the new restaurant Carambola another try. I'm hoping they have Sushi by now! A little windy at the moment, as it is around this time (the trade winds) but I'm sure it will be a nice day on Feisty as it usually are!

 Cheers my friends!
